Get Involved with Acker Park
Trail workThe 75 acre J.S. Acker Memorial Park is slated to become one of the City of Prescott's premier open space recreational opportunities, for residents and visitors alike. The park plan envisions an outdoor area that is "The Park Different", where the visitor will be encouraged to do more with less and to appreciate a landscape left alone. Volunteer help and donations are critical to accomplishing this goal.

Located only 5 blocks from the heart of downtown at the end of South Virginia Street, a minimal development project is planned. The Friends of Acker have been working for over five years in partnership with the city and community to raise funds. Plans for improvements have been approved to receive matching funds from a State Heritage Fund Grant. Improvements will include a children's play area, education/presentation area, ADA-compliant interpretive trails, picnic areas and an ADA-compliant restroom.

In-kind volunteer labor will be credited towards the grant contribution. Several community project work days will be scheduled in the coming year for completion of trails, work installing the children's area items, creation of an acknowledgment wall and mural for the an exterior bathroom wall and building Kiosks. These are just a few projects we can help with and assistance will be greatly needed.

The Friends are inviting support from our generous residents and business community for donations of construction materials, services and donations. Memorial and adoption opportunities are available to acknowledge financial contributions to help realize the goals of this special green belt project. The Friends of Acker are a tax-deductible non-profit organization that will be happy to help you choose from a "Wish List" of needs available. Donations may be mailed to FOJSA, P.O. Box 3489, Prescott, AZ 86302. All contributions will be generously acknowledged and creatively incorporated into the project's design.
