Update from the President
January 2001

By the end of this year all proposed improvements at J.S. Acker Memorial Park are slated for completion. With help from all the community support, we should all be proud to celebrate this accomplishment - Prescott's largest open space recreational park experience. This will be an opportunities for adults and children to explore, learn and experience the wonderful world of nature - right in the heart of Prescott!

After many months of defining park improvement plan details, we are now moving forward with final plans on the Children's activity area. Local landscape architect, Barnabas Kane has been brought aboard to help design a unique and safe nature interaction play area. A "playground found" in an outdoors encounter. Bids for construction of the bathroom are complete and Far West Construction Co. has been selected to start construction in the coming months.

The Friends have well on the way to reaching our $35,000 fundraising goal after recently topping the $30,000 mark. Our 6th annual holiday card fundraiser in December was a sellout and added over $3000 to the account. We plan to do a community wide appeal for donations in the spring once we have artistic renderings of the park improvements created to include in promotional materials. Mr Kane will provide these visuals to help motivate people to support this special project.

These next 10 months will be exciting and filled with activities at the park. I hope anyone and everyone interested will join with us to realize this innovative endeavor in making our community a better place live.

Sincerely,
Charlene Craig
