The Acker Park Master Plan Committee
A separate planning committee authorized by the City
was established in 1996 to develop long range plans for J.S. Acker Memorial Park.
Current volunteer members include Charlene Craig and Bob Hay of Friends of Acker,
Richard Sims of the Sharlot Hall Museum, Richard
Baily, Council member Lindsay Bell, Chris Howard, and LouDeane Lipman-Clark.
Prescott Parks Director Jim McCasland acts in an advisory capacity. Past members
included Ron Barnes and Mary Ann Suttles.

The Planning Committee completed its main goal by developing a Master Plan which
was accepted by the City Council in March 1997. Copies of this plan are available
to any member upon request. Generally speaking the plan proposes that the section
of the Park between the end of Virginia Street and the I.O.O.F cemetery be developed.
The development will include:
- A trailhead parking lot at the end of Virginia Street (15-17 vehicles)
- A parking lot immediately North of the Cemetery (25-35 vehicles)
- Restrooms
- A children's play area
- A lecture/presentation area
- Family picnic sites near trailhead entrance
- Handicap accessible areas
The remainder of the park land will remain "open-space" with existing
trails improved. Other improvements will be features such as; kiosks, interpretive
signs, picnic tables, and benches distributed along the trails throughout the park.
